Data Strategy

The Missing Link Between Ambition and Execution

Data only becomes useful when it is understood, trusted and can be used to make decisions. That takes more than tools or infrastructure. It needs a clear strategy.

Using your data to inform decisions takes more than infrastructure, it needs trust, understanding, and a strategy that empowers change. We build pratical data strategies rooted in your organisation’s goals and ambition. Together we define a clear vision, guiding principles and a roadmap that can adapt as priorities shift.

Helping you become a data-driven organisation

We balance quick wins with longer-term foundations and help you put in place the governance and decision-making frameworks that embed accountability and support consistent use of data across your organisation.

Review business objectives

We align your data strategy with your business goals, revenue growth, cost control, service quality and compliance. We use it to define how data can directly support those objectives and where insight, automation and AI can create the most value.

Document user needs

We capture what your teams need, the key decisions, goals and pain points, through interviews and workshops. We pinpoint the “sweet spot” where user needs meet strategic priorities, creating high-value use cases that form a data strategy everyone supports.

Assessing your data maturity

We evaluate people, processes, and technology using a structured framework, covering data quality, governance, architecture and culture, to create an objective baseline. This shows where investment delivers the greatest impact.

Data governance

We design or refine your Data Management Operating Model so roles, decision rights and accountability are clear. This includes governance forums, policies, standards, and workflows to keep data controlled, usable, and trusted. We provide the expertise to embed data governance and change management in a practical, sustainable way.

Roadmaps and prioritisation

We develop a data strategy aligned to your business goals and user needs, with a clear, prioritised roadmap across people, process and technology. It balances quick wins with long-term foundations, helping you sequence investment, manage dependencies and demonstrate early progress.

Data architecture review

We assess how data flows across source systems, warehouses, lakes, analytics and AI solutions; evaluating the people, processes, and technology involved. We identify what to retain, optimise or retire and define the priority investments needed to build an architecture that safely supports advanced analytics and AI.

Why Your Organisation Needs a Data Strategy

When there is no clear data strategy, initiatives multiply but value does not. Teams duplicate effort, governance is hard to enforce and investment decisions are made in isolation. A data strategy creates a shared direction by assessing current maturity, setting a realistic destination and agreeing the steps to get there. The result is data that is structured, trusted and aligned to how your organisation creates value.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about Data Strategy? We’ve got answers...

What do you mean by a “data strategy”?

A data strategy is a practical plan for how your organisation will use data to support its goals. It covers how data is captured, governed, structured and applied so it becomes a reliable asset rather than a by-product of systems.

We focus on the whole flow from source to impact: how data is generated, how it moves through your architecture and how it is used in reporting, automation and AI. The strategy then sets out the vision, principles and roadmap needed to turn that into day-to-day reality.

Why does my organisation need a data strategy now?

Most data challenges – poor quality, inconsistent reports, stalled AI projects – are symptoms of the same issue: no clear, shared direction. Without a strategy, teams make local decisions, governance is hard to enforce and investment in tools or platforms struggles to deliver a return.

A data strategy gives you a baseline of current maturity, a realistic target state and a route between the two. It aligns people, process and technology so everyone is working to the same outcomes and data becomes a managed capability, not a constant source of friction.

What does your Data Strategy engagement include?

Our work is built around six core activities. We start by reviewing your wider vision and strategic objectives, then document user needs to find the “sweet spot” where business priorities and user needs meet. We run a structured data maturity assessment and review your Data Management Operating Model, including governance and change management.

From there we document the key roadmaps and prioritisation decisions and provide architecture guidance and AI readiness recommendations. The result is a joined-up view of where you are, where you need to be and the practical steps to get there.

How long does it take to develop a data strategy?

For most organisations, we deliver a focused, business‑aligned data strategy in four weeks, covering discovery, workshops, analysis and the core artefacts (vision, principles, roadmap and governance model). For larger or multi‑region organisations we adjust timelines, but the goal is the same: move fast enough to build momentum while spending enough time to ensure the strategy is realistic and owned by your stakeholders.

What do we get at the end of the engagement?

You will leave with a clear, written data vision and a set of guiding principles linked to your strategic goals. You will have a view of your current data maturity, a target state and a prioritised roadmap of initiatives across people, process and technology. Alongside this, we provide a Data Management Operating Model, initial governance framework and practical architecture and AI guidance. Together, these give you a plan you can execute, adapt, measure and evolve.

How do you ensure the strategy is practical and gets implemented?

We focus on designing strategies that are grounded in reality and built for execution. Recommendations are specific, prioritised and tied to measurable outcomes, with clear sequencing, ownership and next steps. Where helpful, we also outline supporting activities such as communication, training and change plans.

Throughout the engagement we work collaboratively with stakeholders across business, IT and change, so the strategy is shaped with your teams and not imposed on them. The aim is to develop a data capability your organisation can own and evolve, with the structures and guidance in place to keep delivering value as needs change.
