Equans is a global leader in technical services, facilities management (FM), regeneration, and energy services, employing over 100,000 individuals across the world. Known for its innovation in technology, Equans prides itself on exceptional client management while making substantial contributions toward a low-carbon economy.
Challange
Despite its impressive capabilities, Equans faced challenges in optimally managing its planned maintenance schedules across numerous client sites. The existing system resulted in inefficient use of engineers’ time, an expensive resource, leading to unnecessary travel and higher carbon emissions. To align with its sustainability goals and improve operational efficiency, Equans needed to transition to Condition Based Maintenance (CBM). This move would require remote monitoring of assets, facilitating interventions with its engineers’ only when problems arose, enhancing both efficiency and reducing emissions.
Solution
Equans partnered with Seriös Group to implement a Proof of Concept (PoC) for Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) at a hospital just outside of Leeds. Utilising Seriös ONE Launchpad, an accelerated route to deploying a cloud-based data platform, the Seriös Group team successfully created and delivered a functional CBM system in just eight weeks.
Seriös ONE Launchpad seamlessly integrated the existing Internet of Things (IoT) sensors installed at the hospital, collecting valuable data on asset operations, including temperature, lighting, and vibration metrics. This data was ingested into a cloud-based platform, allowing for sophisticated data modelling and dashboard creation. The dashboards provided engineering managers with real-time insights into asset conditions, categorising asset statuses as "ok," "info," "warning," or "danger" based on predefined thresholds.
Seriös Group also developed intuitive PowerBI dashboards that provided a comprehensive health score for the hospital's assets and insights into specific assets requiring immediate attention. An alerting system was established to notify engineering managers when asset performance fell outside acceptable parameters, particularly for those flagged as warning or danger.
Impact
The transition from a planned maintenance model to CBM at the test site significantly improved operational efficiency. With thousands of assets to monitor previously bound to a rigid maintenance schedule, the new CBM approach enhanced the engineering team's capacity by enabling them to prioritise critical tasks and support the company’s financial objectives.
“The flexible architecture of Seriös ONE Launchpad positions Equans for future growth, allowing the expansion of CBM to additional sites and integration of more data sources. The ongoing remote monitoring has meant quick identification and resolution of asset-related issues, extending the lifetime performance of the hospital's infrastructure while minimising carbon emissions. This transformation will drive significant efficiencies across Equans' vast portfolio.”
Conclusion
The collaboration between Equans and Seriös Group is an example of a successful transformation project in the facilities management space, showing how innovative data solutions like Seriös ONE Launchpad can enable organisations to enhance operational efficiency and meet ever growing sustainability goals.
