Data Engineer – Football Data Specialist

Role Overview:

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Data Engineer with expertise in AWS, Python, and in-depth knowledge of football data, particularly with Opta data experience. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and maintaining data infrastructure to support our football analytics and insights team, delivering to our football clients and being an integral part of our product development team.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Develop and maintain robust data pipelines using AWS services (e.g., S3, Glue, Lambda) to ensure efficient data processing and storage.

2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and implement solutions to support data-driven decision-making.

3. Utilise Python for data transformation, cleansing, and integration tasks, ensuring data accuracy and reliability.

4. Leverage expertise in football data, particularly with Opta, to enhance our football analytics capabilities and provide valuable insights.

5. Implement best practices for data security, privacy, and compliance within the AWS environment.

6. Troubleshoot and optimise data processes to improve performance and scalability.

7. Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in football data analytics.

Person specification:

1. Proven experience as a Data Engineer with a focus on AWS technologies.

2. Strong proficiency in Python programming and data manipulation libraries.

3. In-depth knowledge of football data, with specific experience working with Opta data sets.

4. Experience with data modelling, ETL processes, and data warehousing.

5. Familiarity with cloud-based analytics platforms and tools.

6. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Preferred Skills:

1. AWS Certification.
