Background

The King’s Trust, a national youth charity supporting people aged 11 to 30 into work, education or training, began its data transformation journey in 2020 to better measure success and drive outcomes. With limited resources, it needed a scalable, cost-effective solution to turn data into a strategic asset. Partnering with Seriös Group from the outset, the charity built a robust data platform and dashboards that show how its programmes are changing lives across the UK.

Seriös Group supports The Trust as part of our charitable commitments, while the project also supports our Seriös Group graduate programme, giving junior data professionals hands-on experience in a purpose-led environment.

Challenge

The King’s Trust had fragmented data, manual reporting and limited visibility of the impact it was having, making it hard to track outcomes or report consistently to stakeholders. With a small data team and limited resources, analysing key metrics like employment outcomes, diversity performance and donor impact was difficult.

Without this visibility, it was challenging to prioritise resources, demonstrate value to funders or make confident, data-informed decisions. These capabilities are especially critical for charities, which often have tight budgets and need to make sure every effort delivers as much impact as possible. To scale its impact, The King’s Trust needed a solution that unified its data to make reporting easier, decisions faster, and insights clearer.

Solution

Seriös Group helped The King’s Trust make better use of their data by developing ETL pipelines, building dashboards in Tableau, and supporting the implementation of the cloud-based data platform Snowflake. This brought together data from multiple sources including programme participation, job outcomes, surveys, partner activity, donor funding and internal operations into a single, decision-ready model.

The solution provides clarity across key areas:

  • Soft skills: Ability to track growth in confidence and resilience before, during and after programmes.
  • Employment: Job offers and sustained employment are monitored by region, gender, ethnicity and deprivation.
  • Employer partnerships: Data highlights which employers create the most opportunities.
  • EDI performance: Regional teams can set diversity goals and measure progress.
  • Donor impact: Dashboards show exactly where funding goes and the outcomes it enables.

The modular architecture we’ve developed is scalable across other charities and public sector organisations. The framework also supports our Seriös Group graduate development, giving early-career professionals hands-on experience in a socially valuable project that helps young people while growing data talent in the North East.

Impact

The partnership has turned The King’s Trust’s data into a strategic tool, enabling real-time insights into programme impact, regional performance, and donor contributions. Inclusion and workforce metrics now guide targeted support for disadvantaged young people, including those facing mental health or disability challenges.

“Since we started working with Seriös Group 5 years ago The Trust has supported over 200k young people and three in four of those have moved into work, education or training. We have undoubtedly been able to progress faster and achieve more in our data transformation journey than if we had gone it alone. As our own teams are necessarily small due to our limited budgets, we find the ideas and approaches to data challenges that this provides, an invaluable part of the partnership.”

Simon Vaux, Head of Data & Analytics, The King’s Trust

Conclusion

The King’s Trust now has a governed, scalable data platform that allow more targeted support for young people across the UK. Data insights are central to delivering its 2025 to 2030 strategy to end youth unemployment.

Next steps include expanding the data model to give a 360° view of each young person’s journey, using predictive analytics to tailor support, and linking donor contributions to outcomes.

This is a two-way partnership: The King’s Trust gains insight and capability, while Seriös Group helps develop future data professionals, showing that purpose and performance can work together.
